Robot kits
A box of motors, sensors, a programmable hub and structural parts with no fixed design — you decide what robot it becomes.

What it is
A kit is a set of parts that can be assembled into many different robots and programmed once built. The point is the open-endedness: a classroom can build a rover one week and a crane the next from the same box. What a kit gives up is everything a finished robot has: no tuned chassis, no calibrated sensors, and a result only as good as the build.
Robot kit, construction kit, STEM kit and educational robot kit all mean this. In this taxonomy the rule is stricter than the shop labels: the parts must assemble into user-chosen forms, and the result must be programmable. A product that ships as parts but builds one fixed design is classified as the robot it becomes — mBot2 is a wheeled robot, BlueROV2 an ROV, LeKiwi a mobile manipulator. Generic electronics kits are excluded.
What they are used for
- Classroom robotics — LEGO Education SPIKE Prime is the reference example: one set, a hub, motors and sensors, and a different model every lesson.
- Competitions — school leagues set a new challenge each season, so the same kit becomes a new robot each year.
- Prototyping — trying a mechanism or sensor layout before committing to a design.
- Hobby — learning to build and program without buying a finished robot.

Edge cases
- Fixed-design builds (mBot2, BlueROV2, LeKiwi, a printed arm): classified as what they become, even if they arrive in pieces.
- Kits with a suggested rover or arm build whose parts rebuild into anything: still kits.
- Generic electronics kits (microcontroller boards, breadboards, LEDs): excluded; they do not produce a robot.
