How this site works
A guide to robots for people who want to understand them or buy one — hobbyists, students, researchers and industrial buyers. Built by fysical.ai, Denmark.
One tree, decided by hardware
Every robot and every component sits in exactly one leaf of one tree: robots by body plan, components by part type. The leaf is decided from the hardware alone — legs, wheels, arms, medium — by a fixed order of tie-break rules, never by who buys it or what it is marketed for. Those things are attributes you can filter by. "Industrial robot" is not a category here; it is a professional-segment arm used for manufacturing.
The rules, the 59 categories and the attribute vocabulary are published as the whatrobot taxonomy (CC BY 4.0), with an explorer and mappings to ISO 8373, the IFR classes, and the Google and Shopify product taxonomies. Anyone can use it, and anyone can propose a change.
Every fact has a date and a page
Product facts come from pages we fetched on a stated date — the maker's page where it allows it, a major reseller where it does not — and each product lists its sources. What we looked for and could not confirm is listed as unverified rather than guessed. Prices are observations: the latest one is shown with its date and seller, and older ones stay on the page as history. The records live in the whatrobot catalogue; every product page links to its own record so you can correct it.

For machines
Everything here is available in machine-readable form, under the same CC BY 4.0 licence. Every page has a JSON twin at the same address with .json appended — /robot/unitree-go2.json, /robots/legged/quadruped.json. Bulk files: /data/catalog.json, /data/taxonomy.json, /data/manufacturers.json. For language models: /llms.txt (index) and /llms-full.txt (every record as plain text). Pages carry schema.org structured data, and AI crawlers are welcome in robots.txt. Cite as: whatrobot catalogue, fysical.ai / whatro.bot, CC BY 4.0, https://whatro.bot.
Money
No maker pays to be listed, ranked or described. Some links to shops on consumer and hobby products may be affiliate links; they are marked where they appear and never change what we say. Professional and industrial products have no affiliate links.
